A Job That Never Stops

It was a very pleasant Christmas afternoon in the kitchen of my farmhouse, when my phone rang.  I picked it up. "Hi Peter, it's Jane Lute calling."  "Merry Christmas", I said cheerily.  But I knew immediately that the purpose of the call wasn't to extend seasonal greetings.  You see, Jane Lute is the Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security in the Obama Administration - and the point person on their Counter-terrorism efforts.  "Sorry to interrupt you on Christmas Day like this.  But we've had an incident on a plane flying into Detroit." 


Honouring Freedom's March

Over the past week, I have attended seven different events in which we have honoured the advance of freedom. Six were events related to Remembrance Day. Another was a celebration of the 20th Anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.  For me, these events have great meaning. They go to the core of my involvement in public service.

My trip with the Prime Minister to the North American Leaders' Summit got off to a great start.  "Do you want to sit in the cockpit for the take-off?" asked the Canadian Forces member.  Of course, I seized the opportunity.  We were leaving Ottawa, headed for Guadalajara Mexico, for the annual summit of the three leaders from Canada, the USA, and Mexico.

Another Boost for Georgina's Outdoor Recreation Campus

Residents of Georgina will soon be able to enjoy multi-purpose trails at the Outdoor Recreation Campus. Peter Van Loan, Member of Parliament for York-Simcoe announced today that the outdoor recreation area will receive additional infrastructure funding.
